At the Shangri-La Resort, Mactan Island, Cebu

This monument and park honors Lapu Lapu, widely considered the first defender
and first hero of the Philippines because he was first to resist Spanish colonization
and conversion to Catholicism. Lapu Lapu and Mactan warriors killed Ferdinand Magellan
in 1521 during the Battle of Mactan.
